One of Tokyo's three traditional "Grand Festivals", the Kanda Myojin Shrine's Kanda Matsuri is a four-day celebration in honour of the shrine's kami (deities). The festival started in the early 1600s as a celebration of Tokugawa Ieyasu's decisive victory at the battle of Sekigahara and was continued as a display of the prosperity of the Tokugawa shogunate during the Edo period.
